Surrounded by the largest remaining
undisturbed grasslands in America, the area
known as Badlands National Park preserves
some of the wildest land the west has to offer.
The Badlands Wilderness is a site of heavily
eroded dry terrain, and is cloaked by a dark
and haunted history. Back in 1890 the Native
American ghost dances occurred in the
Badlands. Later that same year just south of
Badlands at Wounded Knee, more than 150
Lakota Indians were massacred by military
troops. Summit Red Shirt Table during a full
moon and watch the silhouettes of pinnacles,
buttes, and spires glow with a nocturnal pall.
Many stories of those who came before are
lost forever in the open prairies and dusty
draws of the Badlands - but in those same
wild places, new stories wait to be told.
